Then my mom was diagnosed with cancer and life became more complicated; the book stream became sporadic and then dried up completely. 

18 months later, she has outlived her original prognosis by well over a year, is holding her own with family, hospice help and hired caregivers. One of these days I'll make a book.

It actually scanned fairly well except for the spine. It's impossible to show the spine without a photo, because you can't flatten it; when you open the book the spine curls up and disappears.
